ART IS TO AMI
The ability to express the part about you never truly over stood by others. Art is something that’s so very personal . This blessing has taken over my soul and it gives me the power to see the souls of others in their expressions.
Born to military parents my home was Riverside California ,Zaragoza and Madrid Spain, Fort Walton Beach Florida, Edwards Air Force Base and San Diego. Married to the son of a Jamaican Ambassador I moved between San Diego, Geneva Switerland, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. I now live in Long Beach CA,
I paint because it is my blessing and I can't turn away from such a wonderful gift. In my art I express visions of places and colors that recontructs where man and all other creation can work together. January 1, 2006 I started painting while visiting a good friend in Belize . She was living her life to the end with cancer. My friend Renne was a lover of the earth and wanted her friends in their lifetime to experience living in nature. Her Jamaican caretaker had been living there in the rainforest since he was 18 and belonged to a collective of self taught Belizean artist. Through the passion of the jungle painters I learned to paint. Months at a time I developed my art while living in the middle of a Mayan rainforest returning to Belize several times a year to recieve more teaching. I completed a year of art at LA Trade Tech College in 2008. My Belizean art teachers told me If I painted everyday for two years I would be a painter. I've painted almost everyday for four.
The colors of African Moorish tiles, elegent castles, jewlels embedded in the walls of Spanish cathedrals stay in my visual storage. My exhibit of "Africans in the Americas" folk art takes me on a journey and I am influenced by my cousin Africans that live just down the road in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
My mediums range from acrylic to oils, pastels and watercolors. Photo editing and graphics are tools that give me as a artist massive ability to say what I need to say with no limit to the possibility or ways to say it
