- About Me
- Hailed as one of the most prolific and innovative Reggae artists of our generation, a Kingston, Jamaica native, Ras-D, blends a unique compilation of roots and artistry, with a Pop Reggae sound that is unique and captivating beyond mainstream, secular music. Presently residing in Sacramento, California, Ras-D is already a veteran of the industry, as he has been writing, recording and performing before live audiences for more than a decade. In 1996, a young, vocalist and musician, Flourgan, sung one of the original songs that Ras-D began writing during the beginning stages of his solidified career. The song received a plethora of attention from industry insiders, which led to the track becoming a huge hit across Jamaica; garnering critical and commercial acclaim via radio and television programming. At the dawn of the new millennium, Ras-D began touring the United States, playing alongside Andrew Tosh; the son of the 'Stepping Razor', Peter Tosh. As Ras-D became familiar with the music business and comfortable as he delved further into his creative genius, he began writing lyrics to frame the foundation of his 2001, debut album, Give Some Love Today. The album was recorded at The Shaolin Studio, and officially released to the public in 2004. The success of the album spawned a slew of introspective hit singles, which include the project's title track, as well as, No Love, It's A Dirty Habit, Love Attraction and the infamous, September 11th single. As each single is comprised to promote the sanctity of peace, love, unity and equal rights, Ras-D's September 11th track fueled a broad spectrum of radio airplay on KKUP 91.5 FM, KPOO 89.5 FM, Reggae Makosa 91.1, amongst many other mainstream stations. The song pays homage to those whose lives were lost in the 2001 attacks placed upon the American public.
Majorly influenced by such industry Legends and music icons who include Bob Marley, Shabba Ranks, Shaggy and Andrew Tosh, Ras-D found inspiration to record and release a second, full-fledged, studio LP, Love With Meaning, in December of 2007. Ras-D's thought provoking singles continue to receive accolades by garnering airplay world wide on XM Satellite radio, as well as Irie FM Radio across the Jamaican homelands. While performing center stage in venues that include Kauai' at The War Memorial Convention Hall, as well as The Black Expo in Oakland, California, Ras-D has prepared himself to share his melodic messages of cross-cultural unity, amongst the masses. Having appeared in the independent feature film, 'Island Paradise', as well as on television programming that includes First Friday and Talk that Talk, Ras-D has also completed production on an original music video for his smash hit, Give Some Love Today. Through all of his experiences, exposure and supreme musicianship, Ras-D only wishes to encourage his fans and fellow listeners to love and respect one another; allowing Jah, the almighty, to guide and protect their lives along the way.
